Some interesting cinematography, Some ok music, Some good depiction of the bland proper upper class lifestyle (where people have million dollar homes they go to when escaping their other million dollar homes)

All in all a rather crap movie. Watch “A Clockwork Orange,” if you haven’t, and save yourself the disappointment that is “Funny Games.” If you’ve watched “Orange”, re-watch it or read the book and save yourself the disappointment that is “Funny Games.” Maybe this is a version of Clockwork for the new age (ie those that have nto heard of Orange)…but for me the calling each other different names like Beavis and Butthead and other odd references, although made some sense with them pointing out violent and odd media and also certain social buttons such as the weight issue, it was…well not enough. Maybe i’m getting old, maybe this would have been better if i had not seen Orange.

*just found out it was a remake of a 1997 australian film, weak. I may give the original a watch but i doubt ill re-watch the remake.

First, WTF!?!

Now on to the rAnt. I will venture to say that most of the women that wear it do so proudly.  With as much pride as most church-goers have when they imbue the blood and body of Christ.

I have met many Muslim women that do not practice hijab as strongly as others if at all. I have also met many non-Muslim women that choose to dress as conservatively as many if following hijab. On the other spectrum there are many women that wear near to nothing. Dressing provocatively and such…wench-like to be more exact.  And when they walk around those that do not ogle them tend to scorn them. Or ogling followed by scorn. These women may have been influenced by their societies but their fashion choice is essentially just that, a choice. Different ends of the spectrum, both being questioned by society for their appearance, could the issue more be society wanting for people to conform to a comfy middle?

Sure some certain countries tie this belief into the laws of the country and even foreigners visiting are held to the same standard but what is so wrong with that? How different is that from going to someones house and speaking the language,  driving on their side of the road, eating the foods they find customary. But who would honestly claim that religion and state are separate. You want to say that a religious person who goes into politics will not include his beliefs, the very way he believes is the best and right way to live, in his choices for himself, his family, friends and constituents. Could these mostly Muslim states just closely follow the guidelines of the words they feel were given to them by an omnipotent being, words which humans should not feel able to change according to changing times. Living in Italy the effect of the Vatican and Catholicism can be strongly felt in the countries general policies, yet on international women’s day, there was a 5 minute spot of various scenes of naked women on a regular public television show at 6 in the afternoon (how this celebrated Women’s day, i do not know, but that is another rAnt) I firmly believe that this would not have been allowed to air on American Television, although such people are Paris Hilton as well known for her sexual antics as anything else she has kinda sorta done are given ample time to shine. I feel this ‘censorship’ in America is on the same line of thought as that of hajib, as i believe they are both religiously given morals. Both try to avoid unwanted effects of overexposure of sex.

I am personally very attracted by eyes. In many cases the full hajib tends to frame the face and eyes. I have found myself speechless by a girl with what i consider amazing eyes. Many men and women love other physical attributes as much as i do eyes. And as many men and women can recall some time or other when they hung around a situation or person due to their physical attributes in a situation when you would otherwise have left. I got by the speechlessness to find great people behind the eyes that once struck me dumb, but the distracting qualities of physical attributes are undeniable.

Are they some more negative effects of the practice and belief in hajib, yes they are, just as with any other belief. the human quotient usually finds a way to twist something that was initially intended for good purposes to something negative.  times do change, beliefs and practices that once made sense may not after a few years let alone thousands.  I agree with that and encourage continued discourse on the subject but for a statements such as “Muslim women are forced to practice Hijab,” I have nothing but scorn.

I said in the previous rAnt that the next one would be about positivisms or sexism, this rAnt was nto about that but i have a few more women related rAnts that i would like to share besides it is a rAnt and i can not be held responsible for  all guarantees made whilst in rAntmode! and i believe that those who as regular a reader to care will also be happy enough with this rAnt. For the bonus, after clicking continue reading below, you will find a little story i came    up with to show the relative nature of the whole judging peoples physical appearance as well as a link to a story that has never made me prouder of my highschool education!

chimpobama

PeTA , of whom no love of mine is lost on, is however not the reason for this rAnt. the following is an excerpt from an article i read today:

NY Post apologizes — to some — over Obama cartoon

NEW YORK – After two days of protests, the New York Post apologized Thursday for a cartoon that some have interpreted as comparing President Barack Obama to a violent chimpanzee gunned down by police. But the newspaper also said its longtime antagonists exploited the image for revenge.

entire of the article

WTF, does not cover my reaction to this! How on earth does this count as an attack on President Obama. I would go into it more but do not want this to be the first full rAnt on about Obama. When will this insanity end? Are they claiming that the white half of Obama is also being portrayed as a chimp by this cartoon?

I knew the whole ‘black’ president thing would be the cause of some odd situations but come on? this is a reach by all standards. Who really still does the whole black people are monkeys thing? Those that think anyone descended from monkeys and not some naked folk made of mud and a rib in a garden or some other faith-plausible origin actually thing we all may have descended from monkeys, or relatives of them. All of us, Black Yellow, White, Brown and whatever else you want to call people who are really not those colours at all. (well except djimon Hounsou, thats one dark mofo, i kid i kid)

I do not believe this was a direct stab at Obama, the presidency is an office, he is like a spokesperson for an entire branch. The efforts of entire branch were being targeted by the cartoon. Not just Half of Obama. Were thee editors who though of the possible material that muckrakers could use to stage a backlash? More likely than not seeing as they have covered stories of such ridiculous claims before. And as the semi annoying saying goes, “there is no such thing as bad press.”

I hope you read the article if not here is a what one protester had to say about the NV Post:

We make them and we break them with our money, and we should shut it down,” said protester Angela Brown, who carried a glossy photo of Obama.

Ms. Brown, you stopping to read the New York Post would surely be the end of Rupert Murdoch media empire.

here is the unedited cartoon

Chris in doo doo Brown

Don’t like him, liked a few of his songs but don’t like him. This is more from my general mistrust of people that walk around smiling all the time, than anything else he has done or tried to. I feel they are either ignorant to the mess that the world often is in, completely unable to see the mess that the world is often in or are lying straight to our faces through their toothy grins.

rihannachrisbrownsmile

In his defense he has had reasons to smile with the musical and limited acting success (he got shot I was not too upset) he has enjoyed in his relatively new career. (part of this can be attributed to Usher’s little sabbatical from pwnership of all things Rythym and Blues, R&B for you acronym lurving readers) then came the news that he was dating Rihanna. Which may have taken a smile from my brother units face, seeing as he is rather enamoured with her long legged island self, for Chris grinny Brown to keep flashing that goofy smile of his.

Then something doo doo turned that smile upside Brown.

I really like the title of this rAnt, it makes me smile.

There it was on Yahoo news. Chris Brown Sought on Domestic violence, or something along those lines I could not be bothered to look into more but i did wonder if the unnamed victim was Rihanna. I also thought of how domestic violence does not have to apply to a domicile or a binding relationship. Then a few days later it turned out that it was.

Then began the doo doo storm.

Chris began apologizing and the media began questioning. Other celebs, as the oft* tend to, began to chime in with their  opinions

Here is an excerpt from the article “Gayle king rejects Chris Browns apology”  “Gayle King said she wasn’t moved by Chris Brown apology, in which he said Sunday he is ”saddened … over what transpired”with girlfriend Rihanna .”I can’t think of anything that makes me support anything that Chris Brown is saying at this time. And my heart just aches for Rihanna .”

Many more celebrities opinions are in the article. Here you can get mine. Who tha fwarque is Gayle King? is she a gaurdian of sort? Rihanna’s mother? Can those answers be found by simple research? I do not know, highly doubt and could not be bothered. This is since the whole thing is bothering enough without me goign to search who Gayle King is. I know she is not Rihanna so why is she rejecting an apology?

I am not for hitting women in anger, let alone biting them as is now reported Brown, but i am also not for the public crucifiction of this annoying young man before more information comes out. Why does this apology have to go out to everyone and not to Rihanna? I mean maybe it is because the relationship, unlike chris brown, was not all smies. Maybe he and\or she have said one t0o empty apologies  before. But why so quick to doo doo on the Brown?

Many may disagree with me on this but i truly believe the whole ‘ it is not right to hit women’ thing, is sexist. Many a time have i seen a woman take advantage of this and say and do things that anyone watching a guy do, would start taking bets on how fast he was going to get knocked out. Hitting women seems to be generally condemned in public, but the fact that it is still a thing to condemn, means it still happens. Now if everyone is condemning it, then who is still doing it?

Before i conclude, let me clearly state that i am not for hitting women or men except in really dire circumstances (i do not have a clear outline of said circumstances but i do have a clear mind that it is not a simple case of never). We have thought and most of us have the ability to communicate those thoughts, and we should keep it there. now on to the conclusion. I touched on my point in a recent rAnt. Equality vs the end of discrimination. If we are entirely equal, then a woman should be paid as much as any man and also be held accountable for the results of her actions similar to any man. Is this a Positivism that has been carried on from the chauvinist view of women as weaker than men? Is it generally agreed that one should not attack one weaker than you? What if they have a weapon? What if it was Christina Brown that hit her ‘partner’ RyAnna, would Gayle King feel a certain sorrow for both of them, since they are all women? If this feeling of not hitting women, came from the loving feeling we all tend to have to our mothers and not just general sexism. What then would the protocol be if a woman verbally or physically assaulted your mother? Can any of you truely say that the statement of “Men should never hit women”, a statement based on the sex of the person, and not their actions, is not sexist?

And with that Boo on Doo Doo Brown!

*i am re-reading lord of the rings and I felt ‘oft’ would be something Tolkien would have written, here is previous entry on more celebrities speaking their mind: Sharon Stone and Celebreogians

There is no bonus today, but I plan on taking a little time to think about Positivisms, and begin to rAnt about a little more than the celebrity driven pop drivel i have been doing of late. I will still throw one or two of those in there, but Positivisms should be addressed.  I think we should all take some time to think, don’t you think?

I am going to start with saying that Shaq is HE-Fraqin-Larry-us. This video made me happy, and i feel i can be upset later and just thing of him in this video and smile a lil bit. If this was on Facebook I would definately Like it (for those who do not know yet now facebook has the option of liking things on news feeds, I was a fan of disliking things but now i can like them, i like that) This clip almost made me sad that i missed the NBA All-Star game, ok that is a lie, but it is a great clip, Kobe may have jumped over my Mom but Shaq just popped and locked his way into my happy place for at least a few days.

I would like to point out something else in this video, something I noticed a while back, back when I used to watch the NBA. Way before Iverson was rocking the now shorn Cornrows, back in his Mini Fro Days (as was well put in the previous link), I remember thinking how small he looked on the court. He is not that small. He is 6 feet tall (1.8288 meters to my metric readers), the other players were  just giganto. Look how huge shaq looks alongside the Jabbawokeez!!!( the fact he is wearing white and them grey actually increases the effect but this is not an art class so moving on, also breakedancers tend to not be too tall…and last but not least Italy is a lil back on the TV so America’s best dance crew is still on, and i wish Kaba Modern won, although i am biased by my lurve of all things asian) Mr. O,Neal is 7′1″ (2.1336m) tall, a foot and an inch taller than Iverson and at 325 pounds is almost twice the weight of Iverson who is 180. Times like this amazing clip, and when im trying to design a character of shaq like proportions for my animation, remind me of how often we do not look at things in the right frame of reference.

The average height for men is 5 feet 9.2 inches (1.76 m) and weight is 189 pounds (85.7 kg), Allen Iverson may be below the weight of an avarage male but I am pretty confident he is also far above the average fitness level of most males. Average height for women is 5 feet 3.9 inches (1.62 m) and weight is 162.9 pounds (73.9 kg). These are average measurements, they do not take into account body types or fitness levels or any of those things. These being absolute averages of sorts means there is technically give on both sides above and below average before you get to being considered short or tall, heavy or light.

I am not sure where this is going but i really just wanted to put that video up, then thought of the view from my balcony. It overlooks the construction site for the new international train terminal in Turin, Italy. On a clear day i can see the alps encircling pretty much my entire horizon, a testament to how rather flat the city of Turin is that, on a 4th floor balcony i can see that far with no obstructions(that or i am on a hill). Anyway the construction site is rather large, as i first noticed by walking along it. Then looking at the machines working inside and having been close to some of them, it at times amazes me how they look like little toys in a kids playground. I sit there for ages just watching the lil things go back and forth in a little dance of machinery. Then the train comes by zooming along with the its lil teeny passengers, looking like one of those little model towns form Superman Returns. Then I look past it all and see the Alps. I know they are far away, i know that they are rather high, but you can’t really tell ass there is no frame of reference. Then I notice there is a shadow on one of the slopes. It is cast by a rather huge cloud and covers sch a tiny part of the Mountain range. I use one of the new apartment buildings in the foreground to see how slow the cloud is moving, to kind of gauge how far it could be. The thing is creeping by at a millimeter ber minute or so. So slow that i can almost convince my mind that it is moving both right and left.  I look to the right and see that there is a peak that is in the clouds, the white Cumulus clouds not the low lying Nimbostratus. Thinking of how high the peak must be i look back to the now tiny cranes in the construction are and thing about how annoying it is when girls that are anywhere under 175 pounds say they are fat. Being above 175 does not make you fat but i can almost understand you having misgivings and since when was the target weight for girls 125 and below?!

suri-cruise-brooklyn-bekham-wtf

Brooklyn Bekham is right, though he would not have been as shocked if he was regular rEader of Rant A. Tonne and had already seen Suri’s ma Boo, Suri is something to behold. She is so cute that it makes you want to have kids and at the same time fear that upon having them they will be nowhere as cute in comparison to her and thus fail in Suriness, leading to you probably resenting them for their non-Suriness, and your weak gene combination. Much like these two parents probably do of their child.

Suri is ridiculously cute. I do not know what got me to look at more pictures of her, I was talking to Kali and ended up looking at Suri…i may have been on a blog and saw a more recent pic of her and decided to do some digging for your viewing pleasure. Here are the results.

surililadinredsuricupcakesuritowelady1

When I found the picture in the middle, on this great flikr photostream of cupcakes (Cupcakes Take the Cake’s), I read a comment someone had put about how they would never let their daughter eat a cupcake like that in a dress like that.  My response to that is as follows. Besides the fact that her parents can afford to buy 50 of those dresses, or pay 50 people to clean the one dress, or 50 to make another one, or 50 stores that sell the dresses, and 50 farms that produce the material for the dresses…Suri is so dyamn cute that cupcake on the dress is not the same as cupcake on the dress of other children. Because those dresses do not have Suri in them. Now for instance if your child looked like thismileypatch

cupcake on a dress would be a bad thing. Miley, Miley, Miley. You are obviously doing something right, besides certain…hurdles Cabbage Patch Montana doll, but make up like that, the pouting kissy face pics, the eternal peace sign flashing and standing by people way hotter than you, are not helping what your mama(in her case mostly what her papa) gave you.

So I was drinking the other day, wanna make something about it? and as i have said there has been a lot of ItalianTv watching to help with getting to know the language. So when I saw there was a show in English on MTV i decided to watch it. That is my excuse and I am sticking to it, here is what was learned.

  1. It pays to not have to pay.
  2. this rAnt is one reason Paris has a show.
  3. Gangsters say “Snitches get Stitches.”
  4. To many girls and, apparently all socialite and celebrity ones, Homosexual men are synonymous to girls. by this reasoning Asslee Simpson(no misspelling there)  could be considered a lesbian and Lindsay Lohan still Heterosexual.
  5. If your dream of when you you grow up is to be like Paris, and your already her age, put your life in the fail column.
  6. If you think you are not fake, you are.
  7. All Asians do not look alike; they can just easily pass for either male or female.
  8. If you are any race but Caucasian, feel free to pull out the racism card whenever. It is guaranteed to work.
  9. …Perez Hilton, odio la tua faccia.
  10. Girls who giggle after every other thing they say still make me have to stop thinking about punting them in their
  11. I learned more than 10 things but decided to keep the name anyway, wanna make something about it?
  12. I am continuing my attempts to reduce usage of the word ‘like.’
  13. Stupid people can’t handle stupid people.
  14. Unisex dressing Asians, still do not reduce my lurve of Asia.
  15. Paris Hilton has been in jail, and she learned that using a pay phone is gross.
  16. Not only does eating seafood make some people’s throats swell up but cooking seafood makes some people cry hysterically.
  17. Christians love Paris.
  18. speaking of Christians, the one thing stranger than the fact of Paris Hilton looking for a ‘New Best Friend FOREVER” are the commercials i keep seeing for a new Bible. more on this soon
  19. I may never play a Madden video game ever again since Good Charlotte had a song on it. This is a lie ,but Good Charlotte ti odio.
  20. Paris having multiple businesses in Japan made me think of not going there for a drunken 30 seconds.
  21. Life moves pretty fast and millions of dollars do not stop you from getting old.
  22. Paris’ true colours will make you cry

Still here? here is a funny video

This is from my brother unit, he is a big fan of the blog and sent me some material. I have decided to keep it as originally sent outside of embedding the video and picture as well as one little edit in my gray italic thought font. Here you have it This is SenSi™ and I Kinda Sorta Approve of this message:-

Hey guys, brothers name here. I am my first name that i never introduce myself by anymore’s brother, love the blog he keeps up.

I want to highlight a few myths that I see as assumptions that are just followed and are just accepted as true, because “well it just is” or “everybody knows”.

1. Go to school, work hard, get a good “job”:

Fact of the matter is that both the happiest people, and the wealthiest people in the world absolutely do NOT have a “good job”. Now I have a job, as do the vast majority of people around I’m not by any means being condescending here. That said, I am under no illusions that being in an office is my purpose in life, or that it is what will create a legacy. To reach the top, elite level of humanity, you cannot be shackled in a conventional nine to five office job. Seriously. Watch Office Space. It was a comedy, but it was true also. Watch the Matrix. Just because you’re told something, and society conditions you doesn’t mean that it is so. The wrong question is “how much do you make?”. The correct question is “what is your net worth?”. It is not the amount of money you make. It is the type of money you make. A job is good when you are doing it on YOUR OWN TERMS, such as consulting part-time because you love the work, or if it’s a temporary phase while you advance your other interests.

2. Money is the root of all evil. Or that rich people, countries, companies, and so on, are greedy, snobs, etc etc.

First of all, read up on the law of attraction. People that think like this invariably tend to have money problems. Money is just a medium. Actually if I had $10,000,000 I’d be more productive and I’d be able to add more value to the world. Money is a medium. It flows. It can be used for bad or for good. I believe in Karma (you might not)…..I believe if used for bad, eventually life will even things out. What is more materialistic? Buying a $500 pair of dress shoes if that is .5% of your monthly income, or buying a $100 pair of shoes if that is 10% of your monthly income? What is more materialistic owning the new .39 HDTV from sony if you’re banking in high six figures a year, or looting for FREE a flat screen TV like the looters in New Orleans did during the Katrina aftermath?

I have found, and undoubtedly many will not agree with me, that when one has certain judgmental attitudes towards groups of people, it is usually a reflection of attitudes they themselves harbor towards others. So you think the prom queen is stuck up? Well, how would you react if Mary, the girl that doesnt’ wear makeup, that has acne and wears thick glasses, taking two computer classes in high school asked YOU out to the prom? Be honest, what’d be your immediate gut reaction? So you’re worried that your boyfriend is cheating? You’ve probably kissed some guy that was really hot and irresistible…and you were kind of drunk. People tend to project their insecurities on others.

Part of adjusting this harmful attitude is to just work on being a less judgmental person in general.

3. A guy has to be good looking to get girls

Best night of bingo ever!

Best night of bingo ever!

“How did he get HER?” or “What is she doing with HIM?”

Ever heard about that in high school?

Again, I won’t go into details, just look at celebrities. Hugh Hefner’s an old man. Notorious BIG was very fat. Travis Barker of Blink 182 looks like he belongs in a freakshow with all those tattoos.

What they have in common is that they are the Alpha Males. They are leaders of men. They are accomplished. No accomplished doesnt’ mean what car you’re driving or how many drinks you can buy a random girl at the bar.

Being exciting. And adventurous. That’ll get a girl* the antonym opposite of dry was used here but when used in this way is seems a lil off to me.

Being MASCULINE will get girls.

4. Papers from an institution as a measurement of someone’s intelligence

Well having a Masters Degree or a Ph. D or a Law Degree means you’re pretty competent. In that one thing.

This was a problem in the high school I went to. What you got on your SATs or what Honors/AP class you were enrolled in was a measurement of how ’smart’ you were.

Let me ask you though, if you suddenly had to move to Budapest, Hungary and were mostly exposed to the locals only how quickly could you make friends? Are you able to make an agitated cashier that’s the only one covering her shift smile? Are you able to save SOME money on a consistent basis?

Intelligence is not just intellectual. There are social, emotional and financial aspects to intelligence as well. For those of you aware of the mortgage crisis in the USA – most of those having their houses foreclosed are earning six-plus figures. How did that happen?

IMO, the most intelligent persons are those with the maximum number of experiences. And by experiences, I mean just about anything. Pretty much LIVING life, and getting up out of the couch will make one more intelligent. This is something I’m working on.

5. Your particular religion matters.

Note how I worded that. What I’m referring to is – my old man in the sky is the real god. You are going to burn in hell forever because YOUR guy with blue skin who sits cross legged or YOUR guy who “doesn’t have a son” are pagan gods.

Is that offensive? Well let me ask you something. If you consider yourself <INSERT YOUR RELIGION>, do you believe that people of other other religions are damned? If your answer is no, then why does it *really* matter what your religion is, to the extent that you use it as your basis to be very judgmental of many things? If you’re answer is yes, then ask yourselves how that is any different from a suicide bomber, or a Spanish priest during the inquisition. Seriously, think about it. Obviously YOU are not strapped, or slicing out people’s intestines, but the Spanish inquisitors and the terrorists were coming from the exact same headspace.

To me (to me) arguing about religion is like arguing about wether it’s better to use Google Maps or Windows Live Search to find the way to the Stadium on the other side of town. You’re arguing about a MAP. There can be many ways and turns of getting to the same place.

Also religion does not mean shutting off your brain i.e. an eye for an eye, world being 6,000 years old.

“Religion misunderstood, it is poison” (Nas)

That’s all I have for now.

Thanks to the brother unit for his words.  The next post may be a little… well the almost soon to be mythical creature that is Paris Hilton will be involved. for some of my thoughts on guest rAnt Continue Reading »

Beyonce looks like…

… a Hot Dog trying not to stay in the bun.

AHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA, wow someone special to me once told me this when we were discussing how annoying we both found Beyonce. How insulted would you be if someone to said that to you? Picture it;  the hot dog, the bun; the hot dog attempting to get out of the bun whose purpose is to hold it, and it in turn to be held by it. lol….the humour the humour. Would it change from an insult to a compliment if you liked hot dogs? I do like hot dogs despite knowing they are in general crap (their contents and what they have to offer to your body). but at the time of the comment I definitely took it as being meant as an insult, since as stated the discussion was on the growing annoyance that the  increasingly omnipresent Beyonce Knowles. She seemed to be everywhere being all annoying, getting away with wearing garish isht because it was styled by her mother and saying isht like foxyliscious! (Or whatever crap she was spouting in Austin Powers Gold member. She was soo annoying that in my attempts to the memory of here out her out I had to take empty most of the funny isht in the movie as well.  Which was Ok because it struggled compared to the first 2 movies, I put some of the blame on Beyonce). Tell you who else is not a member or Beyonce’s fan club? Etta James. Here is an excerpt from an article by Billy Johnson, Jar. in Hip-Hop Media Training entitled, “Etta James Disses Beyonce’s Inauguration Performance”

It’s safe to assume that Beyonce’s portrayal of Etta James in the retro film Cadillac Records did not impress the legendary soul singer.

The 71-year-old pioneer, who rose to fame in 1950s, recently made it clear that she was not a fan of the self-proclaimed diva whose third solo album I Am…Sasha Fierce is the #3 album in the country.

Before performing “At Last” at Seattle’s Paramount Theatre last Wednesday, James complained about Beyonce singing the song for President Obama and wife Michelle’s first dance at the Neighborhood Ball.

“You know that woman he had singing for him, singing my song, she’s going to get her a– whipped,” Etta said to a thunderous applause. She went on to add that she could not “stand” Beyonce.

Some dismiss James’ anger as jealously, saying that she is only upset because she was not invited to perform the song herself.

However, James’ anger warrants the asking of a few key questions:

Wow, wonderful. “Going to get her a– whipped”? Ms James, Ms James. My money would be on Sasha Fierce in that fight, but Etta never said she would personally administer the whooping. The link to the article is at the bottom of this rAnt. It’s well written, unlike this, so check it out. I hardly find myself wishing physical harm to Beyonce, but sometimes much like the hot dog that she resembles, both in crap contend and offering, there are still times when she is physically attracting. For instance when she does things like 0:54 in this video…

…then she does things like 2:46 and she is annoying again. Actually the premise of the song annoys me. I will bring this up soon in another rAnt, Women do not want to be equal, or this independent isht Beyonce, and Kelly Clarkson used to harp about. They want an end to the discrimination, (definition if you did not see it in previous rAnts) all the other things that came from the view that females were the weaker sex, the more suppliant, the receivers not the initiators, the loved not the lovers, these things they want to keep. How else can you explain the current state or relationships, chivalry is dead, and it was tried in the court of feminism, by a jury of sisters and sentenced to death on an electric chair made in Womania. (Not a real country…though it should be, might actually be who knows what’s happening in Eastern Europe) All the positives they would like to keep, as would most other groups that have been discriminated against. In this particular case getting asked to marry and receiving a ring, which is independent of any action besides saying yes or no, well that and annoying coy hinting and isht…These “Positivisms” (name trademarked by me and only me) are what I will soon rAnt about.

To me she falls into the Arnold category of entertainers, absolutely hardworking and successful at what they does, including being annoying to me. Is she the most talented singer, nope, one of the best performers, at the moment, Yeah, as evidenced from how many hits her one time slip-up of falling down the stairs got on Youtube, or was that evidence of how many other people find her annoying? Whatever the case many many more people find her to be an amazing talent than those that feel the opposite, so many that it is doubtful Etta James’ anger,  and surely now my little rAnt to her annoyance, will matter to her.

Who is to blame?

That is of course if there is anyone to blame. The subject of this rAnt as hinted to in the previous one haha I say this as if you are a regular reader, is the portrayal of asians in Western media, when present at all.

I agree that there is usually  certain characteristics present  in asian charachters. These can be broken down to are 3 main ‘types’ that incite the ire of the people whose comments I have read.

Martial Arts: this is how a majority of asian main and supporting characters have atleast one martial arts related scene in the movie, show whatever they are acting in.

Geishas: this deals with the point of view that asian women are objectified , sexually.

Mr Miyagi: If you do not recognize the name, shame on you. or your maybe under 21 or so, in that case… Mr. Miyagi, played by the great Pat Morita, was a character in the Karate Kid series. The character was a generally old asian full of confusianesque wisdom and calmness who mentors an unruly Gaijin.(non japanese person, in this case some caucasian named daniel)

I was going to use two posts from the “Dirty Sexy Money” Message board on IMDb but an administrator really f’ed up this rAnt by deleting one of my responses under a post titled “Where are the Mainstream Asian-American Characters.” The deletion however does show how heated the subject gets. Here is a non deleted entry that was a direct complaint on the geisha potrayal, followed by my response. The title of the post was “Hollywood stop objectyfying Asian Women.”

Do we really need to incite even more perverted, rabid asiaphiles and indecent behavior/attitudes towards asian women in an already ‘yellow fever’ plagued society?

Dragonlady Lucy Liu has made a living playing the hypersexualized skank woman, never once objecting to these constant degrading portrayals of asian women. Not only that, she welcomes these roles with open arms, eagerly perpetuating these notorious stereotypes that set asians back decades.

A bit off topic but not to mention get this, even requesting asian characters be rewritten as non-asian (see Charlie’s Angels 2). This woman clearly has issues but this does not justify writing the same stereotypical crap for these asian actresses. I can understand at some point what choice do they have, so ultimately they are not to blame.

Its been 20+ years and the ‘me so horny’ asian girl is still chasing after the american joe. What progress we have made!

This was my response:

The fact that you have expressed the you feel society objectifies asian women, should be your answer. Holywood makes money, So if they think people want horny sexy asian women then that’s what they will give them. If they feel that people like acting like they are ghetto, then you have people walking around saying bling bling. The problem is not Hollywood it is society. In the USA the asian population is the lowest by a decent margin of the big 3 minority groups. Of those groups they hail from another social divide of the western vs eastern world. Then take how sexually charged society and media is. Then of course asian women would be perceived as a sort of rare pleasure. I mean even numerically there are just not that many of them, in the usa, and western society (so from seeing one in the media it may be more appealing than seeing some lady that looks like all the boring ladies you already know. In the World there are over 4 billion. If you are asian american and you have had the chance to see asians in many different roles and ways then it is understanding to be frustrated, but if you have not seen an asian woman as a mother, as a sister, as a friend, a classmate, peer, teacher, nurse. Then it is rather easy to objectify them as a woman*, which is her sex, leading to the sexual depiction of asian women. Also It is hard to deny the beauty of an asian woman. That last sentence probably angered you.

The complaint was a general one, as he said Hollywood, but the specific show is called Dirty Sexy Money, and it is a show that you can very well judge by its name. Also

Liu can't tell me this is not beauty
Liu can’t tell me this is not beauty

it is Lucy Liu, look at her, she is a vision.  Enough of my well known lurve of asain women, this is about the blame game.

I reffered to Asians being the lowest percentage of the 3 major minority groups in USA, comprising of 4.4% (read more here). So to tackle the question of there not being enough asians in Mainstream media, there are not that many asians in the Mainstream general. If one wanted complete equality then for every 100 shows or movies, only 4 or 5 should have asians. This is far from the case and the 4.4% counts a large percent that is not even in the target audience of most of the television shows. I wonder what the percentages of non asian characters are in Bollywood , Hong Kong Cinema and the other respective asian equivalents. Chances are they are highly skewed to demographics of their major audience while the minorities when present are potrayed in a manner that would be familiar to that sames audiences generalizations, even if the generalizations may be offensive to some members of those minorities. Generalizations, pertaining to the west, that may come from viewing Raids of Massage parlors for their ‘happy endings’ on the news, or from seeing local Martial Arts Gyms (i am not sure if they refer to them otherwise.)

I say some members since for these ‘offenses’ to be carried out, since we are now beyond the days of blackface, mambers of said race usually have to be willing enough to potray the characters, or at least not as offended by them as they are pleased with the salaries. So in some cases the complaints are directed towards the actors themselves instead of the industry as a whole, but it is not always the white man making the asian one yell HIYA!! (although martial arts is seems to be the action of choice in most of the  asian media i have seen so this may nto even be a valid issue)

Should I get into the subject more or is it sufficiently clear enough to say that if there is blame to be placed, there is no one specific place to put it? We should stop viewing the Entertainment industry as fact and more as business. There may also not be enough asian acresses/actors with the right skill set to portray other types of characters to western audiences.  I have seen dubbed versions of asian comedies and dramas animes that do not have the same old cliches but they are just that. Asian Media, and not Western media.

That’s it for the time being, as i have to research characters for my animation class in 2 hours
